A Few Tips on How to Deal with Exam Stress

Accept what you can not change.

We can accept what we can not change by changing what we can. Make choices that are realistic, not out of reach.

Choose friends carefully.

Choosing the right friends can be key to less stress. Friends are people who help us increase our strengths.

Create environments that reduce stress.

Furniture, and walls, can reduce stress. Specific colors like blue create calmness.

Maintain a sense of humor.

Laughing can release potential stress.

Stop and look at yourself.

Take time to recognize signs of stress such as anger, less sleep. and tiredness. Become aware of this so you can fix it.

Organize

Not being organized creates stress. Not planning ahead for projects, tests, and exams stresses children. Create a sense of control by planning.

Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence in Children

Self-esteem and self-confidence flow during childhood, and it changes frequently because it is affected by a child’s experience and perceptions.

Low self-esteem and low confidence can set children up for a lifetime of issues.

Step in as soon as possible to improve the situation.

Some Tips to Help you as a Parent:

Stop Overpraising: Overpraising can do more harm than good. Praise just enough.

Allow a child to take risks: Healthy risks are good for self-esteem.

Allow children to make choices for themselves: They feel more powerful.

Give them opportunities to demonstrate competence: Have them do a task and praise them.

Encourage children to pursue interests: Their confidence will rise when they accomplish tasks.

Praise a child when they fail: Let them know it is ok to fail.

Help them make achievable goals: When they achieve them, it encourages them to set higher goals.

Sliding Back into Routine

With just 13 days to go before school returns, most parents will find themselves struggling to get their children back into routine. This means limiting social media and technology life. They have created their own routine in the last month, an unhealthy routine. We all know, there has been no limit on this and since we are still battling covid, spending time outdoors for some has been a challenge.

I love the phrase “just 5 more minutes” from our kids, which goes on until 8 p.m. and the struggle continues.

It’s time to break this routine and our children want and need the guidance of their parents to set limits on devices.

Children cannot go from social media binging to social media starvation in a split second. Parents need to ween their kids off it before the school year begins to make a healthy transition and set boundaries for the year ahead. This will benefit both you and your child.

  • Start cutting down on Social Media Entertainment and Gaming gradually.
  • Set a realistic target that you can carry through the school year.
  • The best time to start the detox is when there is a shift in the routine, so next week, the first week of January, festivities generally end and we all start preparing for school – buying school uniforms, textbooks, and so forth. This is the best time to start.
  • Set goals for the year.
  • Plan a study timetable to make the year less stressful and more exciting.
  • Start changing their unhealthy eating during the holidays to 3 meals and 3 healthy snacks.
  • Start bringing water back. The water intake, sunlight, and exercise.
